Happy New Year 2018!

Regular visitors know I don't, as a rule, discuss personal issues or indeed any topic unrelated to my fiction or publishing business on my dA page. I make exceptions when the former affects the latter and this is one of those instances.

This last year has been an extremely busy one for me, though not especially prolific in terms of writing. In addition to the demands of my regular job - and many other distractions and responsibilities - I've been working as an adjunct professor at a community college. The teaching gig has proven time consuming but I've enjoyed it - far more than my day job, at least. In fact, I've frequently considered quitting my day job in favor of teaching (and writing). The problem is adjunct appointments are a) part time by definition and b) unreliable since there's no guarantee the college will have work for you every semester. So I've stuck with my regular job and worked nights at the college.

Well, things are about to change.

Not only have I been granted another adjunct appointment this coming semester but I've also been accepted into an internship program where I co-teach a course with a senior faculty. Completing the program is sort of a precursor to landing a full-time faculty position; it will at the very least look good on my CV when I apply for future adjunct gigs. However, I really don't have time to teach two classes and work 40 hours a week at my current job. I spoke with my boss and we've agreed starting January 14th I'll only work Fridays; I will teach Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The bad news is that since the internship doesn't pay anything my income still won't quite meet my monthly expenses. I've saved up quite a bit in anticipation of this transition and may be able to cover the rest of my costs with tutoring jobs, but I'm taking a bit of a risk here. The nice thing is that this new arrangement will give me a lot more flexibility and, dare I say it, more time to write. In fact, that's part of the reason I did this. I want to finish The Lycanthrope Club: Book III before the end of 2018! More to the point, I want to start getting more material out there - more stories, more commissioned art, more series, more podcasts, more Daemoneye Publishing products, etc. I like teaching, but I also want to have a go at writing fiction and games semi-professionally. If I can do both, great! If I can only do one, that's fine.

To that end, and to help cover my expenses, I think I'm finally going to start a Patreon. I still need to work out the details - such as rewards - but expect to see it soon. Also, expect to see an increase the in quantity (and, hopefully, quality) of my work starting in a few weeks (I know I've said this in the past, but I really think they'll be a difference once my new schedule kicks in).

Here's hoping for a happy and productive year!
